Fringe Wilmington Festival 2011

Volunteer

Fringe Wilmington can't happen without volunteers. We need help promoting the festival, managing venues, selling tickets, and cleaning up!

Volunteering for the Fringe is easy, and we work hard to make sure everyone has a great experience. Volunteer shifts are arranged in short blocks. You can volunteer for as many shifts as you like, but we hope you'll take time to enjoy some of the performances as well. During your shifts, we ask that you do not attend the performances but return at a later time to see the shows.

Volunteering has its Benefits

  • Receive two free tickets for each shift you work: You'll get a pair of coupons good for admission to any show in the festival (unless it's sold out). Two shifts in a row are great - if you can work more than one shift consecutively at the same venue, that's great! If you want to use your tickets in advance of your shift, that's fine - we trust you will work your shift!
  • Learn something new: Find out all about Wilmington's most innovative festival, learn a new skill and get to know your fellow Fringers.
  • Cool Stuff: Each Fringe Wilmington volunteer receives a Fringe Wilmington t-shirt and a special volunteer ID.

Volunteer Positions

  • Venue Box Officers: Sell tickets and reconcile the box office after each show. Box Officers should be comfortable handling cash, multitasking, and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • House Managers: This is a front-of-the-house meet-and-greet position. The House Manager takes tickets, distributes programs, reminds people to turn off their cell phones, keeps the lobby tidy, works with the Box Officers to keep the performances on schedule and helps with special seating requirements and other customer services. House Managers may also be required to read a scripted curtain speech.
  • Festival Runners These mobile volunteers travel to venues to help reconcile and trouble-shoot, and distribute information needed to set-up for the performances. In between performances, FR's work at headquarters to help organize the information going back and forth between the venues and the main office.
  • Greeter/Front Desk: Meet and greet visitors at the HQ, answer telephones, sell admission buttons, and be able to answer questions about the Fringe as well as questions about the downtown area.
  • Visual Fringe Gallery: Mingle with patrons of the arts and answer questions about the art and artists. Training will be provided.

Volunteer Orientation

Training will be provided when your check-in for your shift at Fringe Headquarters (318 N. Market Street).
