Want to see a film of your creation on the big screen? How about a shot at nearly $4,000 in cash prizes? Do you and your friends have what it takes to script, shoot, and edit a five-minute film in 48 hours or less? If so, then sign up today for the 2011 Fringe Wilmington Festival’s 48-Hour Extreme Filmmaking Competition!

The Fringe Wilmington Festival’s popular, extreme filmmaking competition returns to Downtown Wilmington, Delaware on September 9, 2011. This year, participants will have 48-hours to create a five-minute (or less) film in the genre of their choice while incorporating mystery elements guaranteed to make the filmmaking challenge even more thrilling! Filmmakers must include three randomly chosen mystery elements in their film: a line of dialogue, a prop, and a Wilmington location.

What do you get for all of this hard work and creativity? Cold hard cash! Filmmakers will compete for nearly $4,000 in cash prizes, including a top prize of $1,000! The contest also includes a youth category for filmmakers 18 years of age and younger.

The deadline for submitting an application is Sept. 2, 2011 The competition clock starts ticking at 8 p.m. on Sept. 9, and everything must be completed and submitted by 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The competition application fee is $75 for the adult category and $50 for the youth category, with all proceeds from the competition going towards the cash prizes.

Each applicant who attends the kick-off of the contest will receive a free all-access pass to the Fringe Wilmington Festival (one per team), which enables the bearer of said pass to free entry to all performances during the five days of the Festival (including film competition screenings). Each applicant who successfully completes a film within the 48-hour deadline will also receive a second free all-access pass to share with friends/family/team members. The Fringe Wilmington Festival runs from September 21 through September 25.

Applications will only be accepted from the first 50 applicants. Don’t delay—if you think you are up for the challenge, download the application at www.fringewilmingtonde.com!

The 2011 Fringe Wilmington Festival’s Call for Artists is now closed; we are no longer accepting submissions for this year’s festival. Thank you to everyone who applied—we received an impressive number of entries.

As you know, Fringe Wilmington is a juried festival with a finite number of spaces available; unfortunately, we cannot accept every submission. We will announce the artists selected for this year’s festival by July 1.

Additional Opportunity: New Orleans Fringe! Apply by July 1!

Several performers in the 2009 and 2010 Fringe Wilmington Festival departed Delaware for the Crescent City as participants in the New Orleans Fringe. We love our friends down south and encourage you to check out their festival—either as a participating artist or as an audience member!

New Orleans Fringe welcomes innovative, risky, wild, challenging, original theater of all types for the 2011 Festival November 16-20. Applications are now available and are due July 1. www.nofringe.org Virtually any type of theater performance is welcome to apply. We particularly encourage original works or innovative adaptations. Categories include: cabaret, circus arts, comedy, dance, drama, improvisational, interdisciplinary, multimedia, musical theater, poetry, puppetry, storytelling, burlesque, sideshow, spoken word, variety and other creative madness. All shows must be between 30 and 60 minutes. Four guaranteed performance slots. $25 application fee with no performance fee. Box office returns are split with performers. Applications accepted until July 1.

The Fringe Wilmington Festival is a proud member of the U.S. Association of Fringe Festivals (http://www.fringefestivals.us/). We thank the Chicago Fringe for their support—check out their recent blog on Fringe Wilmington here:
